Translation

I specialize in three languages: Finnish, Swedish, and English. The translation can be done from and to any of the three languages. I have had the opportunity to work in translation in several of my jobs and it is something I enjoy doing. Translating is by no means easy, especially when things need to be localized. It’s the challenge of getting the same message conveyed in all languages that makes it also rewarding.

Please contact me and tell me what kind of a project you have. I have done user manuals, promotional materials, software, as well as audio recording and live interpretation. The rate is $25/page, where a page is 1,560 symbols, including spaces.

Film festival website

I have been involved with a film festival called Nordic Lights Film Festival – Twin Cities

I joined the board in the spring of 2010 as the webmaster and the person responsible for Finnish films. Both tasks have taken more time than expected but it’s particularly fun to tweak the website. The website is built with Joomla!, which everyone can learn to use quickly. There are certain limitations with that CMS but I have for the most part been able to overcome problems. I would particularly like a feature where one could assign attributes to the articles, that could then be used for searching articles. Films have several parameters that are of interest, for instance: type, run time, country of origin, age rating and so forth. It’s not possible to assign those parameters to articles and then search for them. Luckily there are not that many films that we couldn’t do some stuff by hand, but database driven websites exist for the reason of minimizing manual work.

Anyway, I hope the festival will be successful. It will be held between 19-24 November 2010, and the venue is Parkway Theater at 48th and Chicago in Minneapolis. Go look at the website and if you like what we’re doing, support our cause by donating us some money. Shipping those films is pretty expensive so all the support is greatly appreciated. And of course, attend the festival if you are in the area.
